MWRD Commissioner Debra Shore Endorses Democratic Endorses Kevin B. Morrison

08/13/2018
Today, Metropolitan Water Reclamation Commissioner Debra Shore joined the growing list of supporters to endorse Kevin B. Morrison, who is running against Illinois Republican Party 15th District Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider, who has one the worst attendance records in county government.

Kevin B. Morrison will make history as the first openly LGBTQ person to serve on the Cook County board if elected. The Schneider-Trump-Rauner Republican Party machine has consistently voted against the interests of women, families, and children to side with special interests and the wealthy 1%. As an absentee commissioner, Schneider has failed the constituents of the 15th district by missing over a quarter of his scheduled meetings and only sponsoring four ordinances while every other commissioner serving a full term have sponsored at least twice as many. When the opportunity to protect families and women came up, Schneider cast a “no” vote against protecting our families’ public safety and funding the criminal justice system.

“Kevin has a proven track record of championing women. As a field director for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, he worked to help elect the first woman president. We need Kevin in the Cook County Board to ensure that the rights of women are protected against the attacks from the GOP. I am confident that Kevin will be an ardent champion for women,” said Commissioner Debra Shore.

Morrison said, “I have been a fan of Commissioner Shore’s work since she took office. She has been at the forefront of mentoring women to run for office so her endorsement means a lot. Women are the driving engine in our society and in the 15th District, sadly, my opponent has taken them for granted by missing important votes like the strengthening of the county’s policy to stop sexual harassment. An ally for women goes beyond talking points but introducing and advocating for legislation that protects women and their reproductive rights. As commissioner, I will go beyond talking points but fight alongside women to ensure their rights are protected.”
